Our Eggs
Our hens freely roam the woods during the day, and most put themselves to bed at night in a secure chicken house. Those that stay outside usually roost in nearby trees, sheltered by cedar boughs and protected from predators by our vigilant livestock dogs, Sophie and Bruce.
Our birds eat a diet of legumes, seeds, grains, and a wide range of forest forage. Our eggs are not organic, as the cost of organic feed is prohibitive. Instead, we choose high-quality, locally milled feed supplied by our local farmer friends, Charlie’s Chickens.
Most of the hens lay eggs inside the chicken house, where we collect them every morning. Eggs arrive at the farmstand every couple of days for peak freshness -unlike month-old grocery store eggs!
Fresh, unwashed eggs can sit on the counter for up to two weeks, but we recommend storage in the refrigerator and washing them before use.
